Bifocal Contact Lenses

There are basically two different types of Bifocal Contact Lenses. They are defined by the way they work on the eye. The first is a translating type, like the Precision TransView. It has two separate and distinct zones. One zone for distance vision and one zone for reading correction. The translating type must fit very precisely to ensure that the lens will be in a comfortable position for each vision task, and be able to move freely, translate, to that position.

The second type is referred to as a Multifocal. These lenses have aspheric curves which change the refracting power across the entire surface of the lens. These lenses like the Precision NearVue, simultaneously provide the eye with the different refractions needed for both distance and near vision. The brain must then sort the information out and decide which image it focuses on. These lenses work best on people who are first needing help with reading correction.
